Within a specific match, you have to insure you will be able to fight effectively until the end of the final round. You have to end a match with the most points, a knockout, or a submission, but if you waste your energy too early in a match, you will not be effective in the later rounds of the match and may lose any advantage you may have built.
Within each round, you have to rate your stamina against the opponent’s stamina and make adjustments accordingly. From your preflight recognizance, you should know the opponent’s stamina at various times in a round. Does the opponent:
- Start strong, stay strong in the middle, and finish strong.
- Start strong, stay strong in the middle, and fade near the end.
- Start strong, fade in the middle, and then get a “second wind” and come back strong at the end.
- Start strong, quickly burn out, and finish weak.
- Start weak, build strength in the middle, and finish strong.
- Start weak, stay weak in the middle, and get strong near the end.
- Start weak, get strong in the middle, and then burn out at the end.
- Start weak, stay weak in the middle, and finish weak.
