Avoiding Trouble
Cell Phone
Try not to have your phone on show. Watch who is around when you are talking on your phone If you are not using your phone, then keep it turned off. Record your phone's IMEI number, which is unique to each phone. The IMEI number is displayed by pressing * # 0 6 # Get your phone properly marked.
Money and stuff
Do not flash your money and gear around. Only take what you need with you. If you do not need a camera, then do not take it. Keep your purse or wallet somewhere where you can feel it, such as an inside jacket or trouser pocket. Pockets you can zip or button are best. If you carry a bag, strap it across your chest and keep hold of it. Backpacks are a favorite target of thieves. Do not leave your bag unattended. If you are shopping, do not walk even a short distance away from it.
Jewelry
Do not wear or flash lots of jewelry and keep it covered when on the street.
ATM cards
- Do not let anyone see you enter PIN. If anyone interrupts you, cancel what you were doing and get the card back.
- Be aware of skimming devices that criminals may attach over the card scanning mechanism.
