Technique Terminology

 

Book

The following are some terms used when describing techniques.

Centerline

Front

Your front centerline is fully facing your opponent.

Forward

Movement is toward the opponent.

Back

Your back centerline is fully facing your opponent.

Backward

Movement is away from the opponent.

Side

Inward

An attack or block that begins inside the edge of the body and moves toward the solar plexus.

Inside

An attack or block that begins outside the edge of the body and moves toward the solar plexus.

Outward

An attack or block that moves from the solar plexus toward the outside edge of the body.

Outside

An attack or block that moves from the solar plexus past the outside edge of the body.

Upward

An attack or block that moves from the solar plexus up to about six inches past the top of the head.

Downward

An attack or block that moves from the solar plexus down to about six inches past the bottom of the groin.

Pressing

Blocks that push an attack downward

Linear

Move in a straight line.

Circular

Move in a curved path.
