| Opening a School |

So your dream is to open your own Taekwondo school. Well, that is a reasonable goal. Opening a school may sound simple to some, but for the school to be successful, you must do your homework before making a decision on whether to act on your dream.
First, anyone may open a Taekwondo school, or any other martial art school for that matter. All you need is a location, a few pieces of equipment, an impressive looking uniform, some knowledge about martial arts, some martial art skills, and the ability to convince others that you know what you are doing. Then set up a yellow pages ad and wait for the gullible suckers to walk in the front door. However, to be successful, you will need to do more. Some phony black belts are good con men and women and are successful within their own neighborhood or city, but for the most part, you must be a legitimate black belt and have some business sense to become a success.
To make your school a success, you need a marketing mix of product, price, place, and promotion. The other topics in this section will discuss these items.
