If you harmonize your movements with those of the opponent, you may defeat the opponent. If you synchronize yourself with the body and mind of your opponent, you may control the opponent's movement. To create harmony, your mind must be clear, calm, and hold no fear. Your mind must be congruent with that of the opponent. You may do this by submitting to the opponent's attack. Instead of resisting an attack, submit to it and flow with it, using the opponent's attack against him or her. When the opponent pushes, you pull. When the opponent pulls, you push. You conquer by not resisting, instead you link yourself to the opponent's movements, causing the opponent to over extend, loose balance, and be vulnerable to a counter-attack.
Taekwondo is a defensive martial art; therefore, it is mainly concerned with neutralizing an attack. Neutralization uses evasion of the initial attack, command and control of action, deflection, and nonresistance. Evasion is when one avoids the initial attack either by leaving or by not presenting a target for attack. Command and control is when one directs the action rather than being controlled by the action. Deflection is the redirection of an attack so it causes no harm to the defender in a way that does not harm the attacker. Nonresistance is when one does not resist the pushing or pulling of an attacker and instead goes with the attack and combines his or her strength, weight, and movement with those of the attacker to defeat the attacker.
Once a direction of movement is established, exhaust all techniques in that direction before changing direction. This keeps the mass of the body flowing in one direction. For example: follow a right back elbow attack with a right back-fist, a left hook, a left front elbow, a left knee attack, a left roundhouse kick, and a right spinning hook kick.
Sometimes there comes the time when one must kill to protect life. When this time comes your must act decisively. The aims of your actions are to stop breathing, start bleeding, and to promote shock. The main targets of your actions are the brain, heart, and spine.
Killing is not a pretty thing. The victim's bowel and bladder will release their contents. Blood may splatter into your eyes and mouth. You may silence the aggressor's outcry but you cannot silence the gruesome sounds of death.
You may experience a queasy stomach after the act. Push your diaphragm up under the rib cage with both hands, take a deep breath, and bend over. This will help quell the nausea.
