Why not use online service?

There are some online school management services that offer much the same benefits as TaskMaster offers. Being online, they also allow you to:

  • Access your information from work, home, or anywhere in the world. Do you need this benefit enough to pay a minimum of $50 USD a month to use it?

  • Let them backup your data. TaskMaster makes automatic on-site backups, if desired, off-site automatic backups may be set up with free online backup websites.

  • Grant instructors, students, and parents limited online access to the data. If desired, TaskMaster allows you easily to place the cycle attendance form online for students to view.

However, there are problems with using an online service:

  • Number one is that it is expensive. The minimum monthly charge for an online service is at least $50 USD. This monthly charge continues for as long as you use the service. Even for a user with less than 50-100 students, this is $600 USD a year, every year. In comparison, for 100 students, TaskMaster has a one-time cost of $300 USD, for up to 25 students its cost is only $100 USD.

  • You do not have total control of your data. No matter how secure the online service’s servers are, all your data is stored in a remote location and it is accessible by unknown persons.

  • If you decide to stop using the service, how will you transfer your data to a different school management system. Although the TaskMaster file that stores school data is password protected, a licensed owner is provided with the password, which permits the file to be opened, viewed, and accessed by any software application that can access data in a Microsoft Access database.
