Bow or Stem:
Front of a ship.
Fore or Forward:
Toward
or at the front of a ship or further forward
Stern:
Rear of a ship.
Aft:
Toward the rear of a ship.
Abaft: Toward or at the stern
of a ship or further aft
Centerline:
An imaginary line drawn from the point of the bow to the center
of the width of the stern.
Athwartships:
Toward the sides of a ship.
Starboard:
When facing forward along the centerline, everything to your
right is starboard.
Port:
When facing forward along
the centerline, everything to your left is port.
Above:
A higher deck.
Below:
A lower deck.
Topside:
The main weather deck.
Aloft:
The mast, stacks, rigging, or any other area above the highest
solid structure.
